Nsambya Babies Home (NBH) is a registered Child Care Institution (CCI), (MG LSD/ AC 0017)
under Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development.
Its history goes back as far as 1958 after the Founders of the then Child Welfare and
Adoption Society (CWAS) under the Uganda Episcopal Conference got overwhelmed with
the big numbers of Babies/Children who had been displaced due to war, family
challenges and diseases. Through Missionaries, they mobilized local and international
fundraising appeals to put up structures for the children and to provide social services
towards the vulnerable children, namely; to organize re·-unification where possible and
to find prospective families to foster or adopt those children.
Due to financial constraints, the National Episcopal Conference agreed to have each
Diocese look after its babies/children. Hence in 1969, Nsambya Babies Home was
established and in 1988, it was entrusted to the care of the Sisters of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary Reparatrix (IHMR) -Ggogonya Sisters; on behalf of Kampala Archdiocese.
